An Annadhana at Night

For the first time, an Annadhana at night. Left overs from a party at Hotel Kediyoor,Udupi is being donated by Co-Founder Dilip Adiga himself. The destination is the slums of Beedingudde itself as its already past dinner time in most orphanages.

Money Well Spent!

Last weekend Annadhana had received a very generous donation from the people of Udupi.Although the initial plan was to use the money for transportation charges, our very first assignment changed the plan altogether. We did not have any jars or containers to take the food! Luckily for us, the first time we scraped through. And so it was decided that we need to use the money to buy boxes and canisters. Today we managed to get some of these much needed items.
We were also able to squeeze in a request to yet another auditorium.Although we have not received a positive response from their side, we are hoping for the best!

First and Second Donations!

December 26th was the day when Annadhana was given its first assignment. The manager of a prominent marriage hall in Udupi called us at around 4 in the evening. Three members ( Mohit Kotian,Darshan Shet and Vikhyath Kumar) along with Ankith J Shetty worked to transport a whole 3 course meal from the hall premises to Spandhana (A home for the specially abled). Ankith's father was instrumental in convincing the manager to lend the necessary vessels for transport.
The team successfully completed the task at hand. But there was still a lot of food remaining. They decided to donate it to the people who lived in tents along the roads of Beedingudde,Udupi. The residents of that area where absolutely delighted.Although the team struggled to manage the large number of people, the experience was amazing.
On the 28th we received a similar call from the same manager. This time I managed to join the same 3 members on this task.It was a much easier task considering the fact that the amount of food was less. This time we directly gave it to the people of Beedingudde. It was a gratifying day overall and we hope to do more in the coming days!

Annadhana Makes It To The Papers

Udupi Utsav Stall

Day:Christmas Day( Udupi Utsav )
The annual festive event in the sleepy little town of Udupi is the Udupi Utsav.Held usually during the month of December this annual events draws a huge number of people from in and around Udupi. Team Annadhana was fortunate enough to receive
a small booth at the fair for a couple of days. The booth was pretty close to the exit, thus broadening our target audience.
The Udupi City Muncipal Corporation was kind enough to allot the space without charging any rent. We were able to set up a desk and our main advertising medium was a 40inch television. A couple of banners were put up.(One in
English and the other in the local language, Kannada). We printed over 1000 pamphlets that got over within the desired time limit. The booth was ours for only a couple of days.To raise funds we had made crafts out of ice cream bar sticks.Couple of our team members had toiled for days to finish these and they were a huge success.
On the first day we managed to give away more than 60 of these pieces. We had exceeded our expecatations.60 was a number that we initially thought was too big. Who in
right mind would buy these. Then again we are not psychologists or acclaimed HR professionals, but zealous 20
year students! We stuck in and managed to make few more of these crafts to sell on day 2. The next day a rather big
'Donation Box' was placed at the front of our desk.We were in for a shocker again. The number of people
who turned up to donate money was way more than we could've asked. Exact figures of our collection will be put
up in a few days! We look forward to kick start our work as soon as possible!

A Great Share By Dr . Usha Nayak

Ancient Indians realized that all lives in this world are depended upon food. For this reason we find a whole hymn in praise of food in the Rigveda. They regarded food as the source of all life hence they called it Prajapati or Lord of all creatures. In the Taittiriya Upanishad food is equated with Brahma for it is stated that all beings take birth from food, after being born they subsist on it. In the same work it is stated that one should not deprecate food for it is the vital force and the body is fixed on the vital force. An eater of food becomes great in progeny, cattle, and in the luster of holiness and in glory.
